HOUSTON — A college student has been arrested on a warrant after her negative tweet about slain Deputy Darren Goforth went viral, Houston Chronicle reported.
Sam Houston State University junior Monica Foy tweeted on Sept. 1, “I can’t believe so many people care about a dead cop and no one has thought to ask what he did to deserve it. He had creepy perv eyes,” The Huntsville Item reported.
Shortly after the post went viral, Foy deleted her tweet and eventually her entire Twitter and Facebook accounts.
When the university became aware of the situation, they released a statement stating that they do not support Foy and her opinion does not reflect the beliefs of the school.
“We fully support and are thankful for the men and women who risk their lives every day to protect and serve communities across the nation. We mourn the loss of any officer and in no way condone the recent and senseless violence that has occurred in Texas and across the United States against those who have sworn to protect us,” the school wrote on their Facebook page.
Foy was taken into custody on an unrelated charge after Montgomery County Sheriff’s office received a tip on an outstanding warrant of assault causing bodily injury, a spokesperson told the Houston Chronicle. She was later released on a $1000 bond.
The school is determining whether Foy’s comments violated any code of conduct rules. As of Sept. 2, the publication reported Foy is still enrolled at the school and a spokesperson was unable to comment on disciplinary action.
