Radar Detections on Stops

When you do a stop for speeding, (Non commercial vehicle) if you see a radar detector in the vehicle, do you write them then? I have talked to some officers who have told me that if they see a radar detector in the vehicle they write them if normally they would have just gave them a warning. They said that they felt that there is really only one reason for a detector and that is to speed well above the buffer speed limit. What say you road officers?? And I know they are illegal in VA. That is a whole another argument.

  • I would write if I see one. There cant be any other reason for the radar detector in a car other than to try and avoid getting stopped.
  • If I stop someone and they have a radar detector, I issue a ticket. If you have one and still manage to get stopped, you earned a ticket
